KATG claims Podshow has only 12,000 downloads a day
Keith and the Girl, arguably the biggest podcast in the world, has continued its occasional series of attacks on Podshow in its latest episode, Prove Me Wrong, by spending around the first 15 minutes of the episode claiming that the entirety of the Podshow network has only 12,000 downloads per day. This is less than the KATG show on its own, according to co-host Keith Malley. No word on where the figures came from as yet, but KATG do have a history of being leaked sensitive Podshow information from disgruntled insiders as in episode #247, The Podshow Contract, where they read out a leaked version of the contract offered to new recruits which had all sorts of restrictive music-label-like clauses.
The publication of such figures, if true, would be a further blow to the new audio media industry which has already seen consolidation in the satellite radio industry this year. I wonder how those numbers would stack up with The Podcast Network. Podshow has to date received US$15 million in venture capital while I don't remember hearing about TPN getting any funding, apart from out of Cameron Reilly's own pocket, yet it seems that TPN doesn't have much to beat.

You know, given how much these commercial pod-network guys bleat about the corrupt world of Old Media, they sure have a predilection for fucking creatives in the ass.
Want a fun exercise? Google for the word "empower" with your favorite pod-network's name and see how many hits you get. They're not empowering amateur broadcasters, they're fleecing them through amateur business practices.
Of course it's true. Have you listened to KATG? Have you listened to any the podshow crap? It's pretty simple really. Keith and the Girl is actually interesting and fun to listen to, whereas Daily Source Code and all that other podshow crap is just a waste of time.

I have a show on Podshow (The Musicians Cooler). I enjoy my Godaddy bonus checks. I enjoy the press releases they have done for me. I enjoy not having a hosting fee. I enjoy the added bonus of networking with BT, AOL, etc that podshow has established. After all the other podcasting networks have.. um... they've...
For the record some of my other podcasts are on libsyn. I am signed up with Kiptronic. I am with Podtrac. I am with Blubrry. My one show on Podshow has made more money for me than my other shows combined.
I always here, "If you leave the network, they can still run my show (OH GOD NOT MORE EXPOSURE NO!!!!)". On every podcast I promote MY WEBSITE. I have a link to the podshow site, but if I were to ever leave, my fans would know where to find me (so stick your branding argument up your ass). My fans are subscribed to MY feed. I have never had a podshow person tell me what I can or can't do in a show. Podshow reps have sent me e-mails asking if there is anything that they can do for me (those BASTARDS). They do not CONTROL anything.
Then I hear the gripe about the 15 second spots at the begining and the end of the show. You know the ones that you can fast forward through...
Go put in a DVD. Anyone notice that you CAN'T fast forward through some of the previews anymore. Go to mtv.com and watch a news story - right after the advertisement. Go turn on your PSP - schwooop "Sony" comes on. An advertisement. However if Podshow puts a 15 second spot on they are the devil. The evil doers. For the record I start the DSC at the 5 minute mark and skip all the music. Its called a fast-forward button (and I don't share AC's tase in music). Oh yeah, and I'm not forced to listen to the DSC (another comment I've heard).
Is there room for improvement? Yep, and when I talked to them at PME, they took notes. It's like THEY CARE. Again, BASTARDS.

To the above I think mainly the "hate" comes from the fact that you no longer own your content, period. It's podshows content now and as a representative of podshow you "may" have to relinquish some control over what you may be able to do with your podcast in the future, or what can be done TO it. Of course they may not have done anything drastic to you now, they're trying to grow! But what you signed has given away ownership and that kind of sucks after the hard work that you have put into creating something original.
I think that Podshow's lack of reaction on these issues makes them suspicious in the minds of people. It's just weird that they wouldn't react if they care to be taken serious.
Also, there were several occasions where Adam Curry was just being petty and hostile-ish, while people like KATG seem to be very straightforward even though they might be blunt.
I think people are just more attracted to the anti-established than to the wannabe suits. I know I am.
I agree with Dave. Podshow just aren't as bad as KATG make out. Read any contract with your pessimistic head on and they're all horrendous and have the potential to screw you over. Get your mortgage or home rental contract out and try it. I find the 12000 figure hard to believe as well.
This is partly publicity. KATG did really well with "Fuck Dawn and Drew". They've been shouting for a head to head with Podshow for ages, how much free publicity would that be? Aim for the biggest and most visibly target and chuck the biggest rocks you can at it, it's one of the oldest tactics in the book.

The reason I don't like Podshow/AC is that they are shade as all get out. Pulling down comments. The way Adam went all "Podsafe" and putting the Blame on the Music authorities (Did anyone notice that he pissed on them just perform this by blatenly playing music he knew he would get in trouble for. Keith and the blow job known also KATG are crooks who would do any criminal activity to put down podshow inc. The fact is that when I tried to discuss with them on their forums then stupid Keith and his moderators started to CHANGE MY OWN FORUM POSTS and my profile - very childish and criminal behavior. Then they blocked me from their forum while continuing to post as myself and they were changing my old posts in their forum. It shows that nothing that KATG says can be trusted to any extend.

I agree completely with Dave Jackson! I'm very happy with Podshow as the host of my Levinson news clips - which, by the way, often receives over 100 hits a day, and is small potatoes, so just on the basis of that I would doubt the 12,000 figure for all Podshows...
First, Podshow doesn't respond to KATG's crap because it's just that, crap. Anyone who has spent time in politics or the business world knows that it is often best to ignore your critics, as answering them only gives them attention. And that's all little Keithie wants.
Also, their "outing" of the Podshow contract was bullshit. I have signed a Podshow contract for my show (Matt's Today in History) and I can tell you that at least 50% of his claims were lies. That's right...lies.
So before anyone jumps on Podshow for being evil bastards, maybe it would be a good idea to actually learn something.

So, who's the greedy? If you aren't greedy, why don't you donate all your money from podshow to charity (to those who spend a lifetime to make what you do in a month) or perhaps better yet, not be with podshow... enjoy listener's donations and store sales &c and keep your content.

I dont really think the point of those spots are to be skipped. Yes they can be skipped but if that's what people are actually doing, the spots wouldn't be there.

I would expect them to do that. What did you expect on a forum full of KATG listeners?? It was not the appropriate place to discuss. And what is there to discuss, they make their views clear and forum discussions are not going to change that.
If you listen to their shows, you, too, would expect them to do that. Changing forum posts is nothing. Keith has no problems throwing old men's walking sticks across the road. Seriously.
As for the no. downloads, no idea where the 12k figure comes from but KATG is definately more popular on Alexa traffic and where KATG is getting more popular, podshow are losing users.

For the record. I have a nice home, two nice cars and a great family. I am healthy, but not money rich. I am rich in so many other ways. and yes, I do donate both time and money (albeit small) to charity. I apologize for the name calling. This wasn't the point of my post. My apologies. I just wanted to make the point that the business and money end of things is really messing the podcasting community. Sure there are some casts I LOVE and some I can't stand. But everyone is making an effort and actually creating entertaining content. Some people have even invested considerable time and fortunes into trying to make a working sustainable model for podcasting. Bandwidth bills alone can be ruinous to anyone who becomes successful at garnering listeners or viewers. I know. Be careful about what you wish for. If there weren't hosts willing to provide bandwith, a lot of people would work for the rest of their lives to pay for the bandwith bill they got because of all of the RSS hits and transfers. GO Get dug and find out the hard way.

I understand how difficult it is for podcasters. Bandwidth is expensive and living purely on donations and store sales is very difficult. Not many podcast shows are doing as well as KATG on the money front and it's not great living as a starving artist so to speak.
I do see the theory behind Podshow, but it is appearing to run similarly to the music industry, which is far from favourable with many artists being fucked over by these giants daily.
I was not around when the music industry wasn't rife with pop music and their controlling record companies, but I was around when podcasting began. It had the great open source, doing-it-in-my-home-garage vibe to it, which is the way so many things are pointing in this internet-age (e.g. software, books/education, blogs, music without DRM, free content licenses)
Podshow seems to go against all that with its iron fists and contracts bullying people around who are not as well funded as they. I guess that's trade off -what you have to sacrifice- when you want large companies involved.
On top of that, I have heard Adam Curry's comments about KATG and listened to his guest appearance on TWiT. I don't feel that he is not a likable man. Yes he is the 'podfather', however he is (as his wiki entry states) an entrepreneur. He does not have the best (or perhaps even good) interest of his podcasters in mind.
I do not know what the alternative would be, however, I don't think that Podshow are doing it right.
Perhaps individual podshows getting their own links with companies who are compatible. I don't know much about podtrac.com but it's an alternative.

Although it's been said in many posts here, I want to reiterate it. What KATG said was crap. The downloads number is just plain wrong. I have never been happier than when I signed with Podshow, and everyone there has treated me superbly. They DO NOT own my content, I do. I am excited and thrilled to be part of Podshow.

Adam Curry built podshow on lies & deception and on the backs of people who actual know the technology, and he continues to try and scam advertisers. Adam is constantly trying to drum up the community to do things that in the long run only benefit him and podshow in some pitch to make back room deals. Who built the Podsafe Music Network? Adam acts like we are all in this together mean time he is stabbing us in the back. He has 19 million in funding yet podshow website is the biggest piece of crap. The whole thing is a big con that he is pulling, and it will eventually unravel.

"Hey lets bum rush the charts man" why is he pushing this stuff, Adam uses the public like sheep, to do what is good for Adam.
